Baptism & Confirmation

Celebrating the wide-open welcome of Christ's Love

Baptism

As United Methodists, we believe that baptism has both human and holy qualities. While we speak human words and use the physical sign of water, we believe that God is also at work through this action. This makes baptism a sacrament, and as a sacrament it is available to all people regardless of their age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other human criteria. People of any age may be baptized.

Baptisms may be celebrated in any public worship celebration at Silver Spring United Methodist Church, but are generally celebrated monthly on the fourth Sundays. Prior to baptism, the interested person or family must schedule baptismal counseling with one of our Pastors.

Confirmation

Although confirmation is not a sacrament in The United Methodist Church, it is an important marker along our spiritual journeys. Confirmation is an opportunity to respond to the grace of God available to us, as acknowledged in baptism, and to promise to live as a person of faith when we have been baptized as a child.

Confirmation classes generally start in January of each year and conclude with a service of Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday. If you are interested in learning more about Confirmation at Silver Spring United Methodist Church, please email our Office.
