Welcome to Silver Spring United Methodist Church!
We have a proud tradition of serving the Silver Spring community for over 150 years. We are an inclusive congregation where everyone is welcome. We reflect the many hues of God’s people as a community rich in age, nationality, gender, race and cultural diversity. We invite you to join us for worship and to find out more about us.
Sunday Worship
Worship is the keystone of our discipleship journey. We gather weekly beginning at 9 A.M. for Christian Education for all ages, followed by a blended worship service at 10 A.M., and followed by a fellowship hour in our newly renovated parlor from 11:15 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. Additional education and opportunities for Christian formation are available during this time.
Children
We welcome and celebrate children at SSUMC! At 9 A.M. Sunday School is offered for children and youth, along with nursery care for kids 0 to pre-K. Afterward, children can join their parents in worship at 10 A.M. Following our weekly Children’s message, kids pre-k through 5th grade are invited – but not required – to participate in Children’s Chapel, where they’ll sing and engage the same scripture being read in our Sanctuary, all with experiential learning that helps them engage the Gospel in meaningful ways. Following worship, nursery care will continue to be available until 12:30 P.M.
Do I Need To Put Something In The Offering Plate?
We encourage everyone to fill out an attendance card and put it in the offering plate because your presence in worship is a gift that you offer to God and to the gathered community. Most of our active members give financial gifts as well, but we do not expect visitors to contribute financially unless you are so moved.
How Should I Dress?
We welcome you to come as you are to worship. People wear everything from suits to blue jeans, although most people choose a modest “business casual” style of dress for worship. Summers are more casual—sometimes we even wear flip-flops!—but temperatures in our sanctuary sometimes vary widely so we encourage you to dress in layers.
Mask Policy
At this time masks are optional when joining us for in-person worship. Vaccination requirements are in effect for our staff, choir, and hospitality volunteers to provide additional safety for the youngest and most vulnerable among us.
