As a United Methodist congregation, Silver Spring United Methodist Church connects to others worldwide partly through apportionment giving. In the UMC, apportionments are a percentage of the total budget of each congregation.
Through our apportionments, we are present in the world as:
- a helping hand during natural disasters through the United Methodist Committee on Relief,
- mosquito nets in Northern Africa through Imagine No Malaria,
- cargo nets on United Methodist campgrounds, and
- root beer floats during campus ministry events.
Apportionment giving enables us to support the ministries and missions of the larger church through financial support that goes beyond our own congregation and local community. At SSUMC we are committed to paying our apportionments in full every year and believe our faithfulness to the larger church is essential to our own ministry and mission.
