When Marvin Memorial UMC and Woodside UMC transitioned from a cooperative parish to form the new Silver Spring UMC in 2013, we adopted a brand new mission statement. Our mission is: “to be a movement of Christ’s love to the people of Silver Spring, feeding all of God’s people – body, mind, and spirit – so that no one goes hungry.“
This statement flows out of who we are and who we hope to be as a congregation. We try to listen honestly and openly to the hurt in the world, having faith that by and through the grace of God, we can work together with other organizations and do something about the wounds in our communities. Check out our Outreach and Service Programs and our Food Ministry Programs for some examples of what we’re up to.
As a movement of Christ’s love, we offer Christian formation opportunities for people of all ages, and we don’t ask people to check their God-given minds at the door. We strive to be a loving community where all can participate and share their gifts and love for God with each other. We hold each other in prayer and know that sometimes love looks like a casserole on your doorstep.
All are welcome here. Please visit our Reconciling Ministries page for more information about our identity as a community that welcomes everyone.
