Young Adult Ministry

We are excited to have so many folks in their 20s and 30s at SSUMC! We try to be responsive in planning events for young adult ministry, and would love to hear what you are interested in! Please contact Rev. John Monroe at if you have questions about current ministries, or thoughts about new ministries. Our pandemic young adult ministry has included virtual gatherings, some 6-week small groups, and in the summer of 2021, some outdoor in-person hangouts…and we’re excited to get more events and opportunities to gather on the calendar for Fall 2021.

We design events once every few months to appeal to young adults with and without young children. We do barbecues, game nights, crafty brunches, baseball games, interfaith dinners, hikes, movie nights and more! Check back for regular updates about our upcoming monthly events.

Young Adult Small Group (on hiatus)

Do you need some time to hang out with peers in your neighborhood? Are you juggling professional life and personal life? Are you missing some time to explore questions of faith and meaning with supportive friends? This group is designed to focus on fellowship and community, with some thoughtful discussion topics provided. There will probably be a book we’re reading or some Scripture you can choose to review ahead of time if desired, but it’s strictly preparation-optional. We read The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, and Strength to Love, by Martin Luther King, Jr. For Lent, we talked about how Jesus taught about and modeled prayer, using some audio devotions (find those here).  We have met on Friday evenings from 7-9pm in room 151 at the Downtown Campus. We have provided dinner and we met in a space that’s friendly for kids!

We have met on and off for the last few years, as young adulthood is a time full of transitions. If we get a group of interested folks, we could reboot the group!
