He first experienced a call to ministry in elementary school and has served in part-time and full-time appointments, including in rural Arkansas, Chicago, Illinois, Arlington Heights, Illinois, and most recently at Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. He is deeply committed to collaborative, lay-driven ministry that empowers all people to use their God-given gifts to create anti-racist, radically inclusive, and heart-transforming Christian community.

Along with our clergy team, Pastor Will provides pastoral care for our whole congregation, including: visitation, sacramental celebrations, weddings, and funerals. You can schedule a one-on-one with Pastor Will here. He also serves in a variety of roles beyond our parish, including co-facilitating Resist Harm, an diverse group of United Methodists committed to resisting harm to LGBTQIA+ persons and their allies by our denomination, and regular contributor to Pulpit Fiction, a lectionary-based podcast for preachers, teachers and Bible geeks.

In his spare time, you’ll often find him hosting dinners for friends and loved ones, gardening, kayaking on the nearest waterway, or prowling local thrift stores for his next furniture re-finishing project.

Rev. Michele Johns – Pastor for Visitation & Reconciling Ministries

Personal Pronouns:    She / Her / Hers
Email:                             mjohns@silverspringumcp.org

I am grateful to be in my 8th year serving with the people of Silver Spring UMC as the Pastor of Visitation and Reconciling Ministries.

My areas of ministry include pastoral presence when congregants are sick, in the hospital, facing other physical, mental, or spiritual challenges as well as when congregants are celebrating the birth or the adoption or other entrance of child into their family or getting married.

I also participate in other areas of ministry including Sunday worship services, memorial services and funerals, baptisms, and weddings.

The “Reconciling Ministries” part of my ministry is working with those who identify on the gender and sexual orientation spectrums, including those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender nonconforming, and nonbinary.  While our denomination continues to debate over the full inclusion of persons who identify as LGBTQ+, Silver Spring UMC is committed to the full embrace of LGBTQ+ persons in all areas of service in the church.

In addition to my seminary training, I am also a licensed social worker.
