We seek to embody St. Francis of Assisi’s message to “Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” Our ministry and missions programs are concrete expressions of how we understand our faithful witness to our community and world today.

United Methodists are mission-oriented and socially conscious. The Church has a long history of concern for social justice and its members have often taken forthright positions on today’s issues. For more than 200 years, Methodists have worked to help those in need all over the world. And so we too strive to stand and work for justice in the name of Christ.

We believe that each of us is called to participate in the outreaching ministry of Jesus Christ. John Wesley and our forbearers saw our work in the simplest, plainest terms: Do all the good you can, in all the places you can, to all the people you can. Here at Silver Spring UMC, we have a strong commitment to positively influence society through responsible social action.
