Silver Spring UMC Youth Group
The youth group meets on most Sunday evenings from 5-6:30pm September through mid-June. Our weekly meetings consist of games, creative reflection, devotions, Bible study, fellowship, and much more. We also plan retreats, service projects, fundraisers, lock-ins, and fun trips to amusement parks and other attractions. Our youth are also encouraged to be active in the ministries of the church. They participate in worship as liturgists, scripture readers, acolytes, crucifers, and ushers. They also volunteer at Vacation Bible School and participate in summer mission trips. We welcome all youth, who are in grades 6-12 to participate! We strive to create an inclusive and supportive community where youth can explore the relationships between themselves, God, and the world.
For more information regarding any youth ministry opportunity, contact Jen Kidwell, Director of Youth and Adult Discipleship at [email protected].
Middle School Sunday School Class
During the school year, this group meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month during the 11am service. We use a curriculum designed to introduce or reinforce topics also covered in confirmation.
This group is open to any middle school youth who has not yet been confirmed. We meet weekly from January-June on a day and time that is set by participating families. In 2017, that was 9:30-10:30 on Sunday mornings. In confirmation, youth have the opportunity to claim the questions and learn the practices of a life of faith. They are encouraged to explore what church membership means to them and to decide whether and how to embrace that for themselves.
High Schoolers Only
Starting November 2017, high school students are invited to lunch after the 11am service on the first Sunday of the month. On the third Sunday of the month, we will host a high school only worship service at 11am in the chapel. This service will involve some young adults helping to lead worship and will include some reflection and prayer time for this small group!
