“Taste and Read: Stumbling Blocks and Stepping Stones to Relationship with Jesus” (offered in 2 formats!)
Lent at Silver Spring UMC will focus on those things which are often stumbling blocks to full relationship with Jesus – and on the ways in which the gospel stories, read and studied and lived, can be stepping stones drawing us closer to each other and to Christ. For five Wednesdays, starting the Wednesday after Ash Wednesday, we have the opportunity to share a meal (whether a light breakfast or snack-y potluck supper) and a study of the texts which will be the focus of the upcoming Sunday worship at Silver Spring UMC.

in the ‘Blue Room’ at the Downtown Campus, led by Rev. Katherine. (Yes, it’s early, and, yes, there will be coffee.) Contact Rev. Katherine

Join us as we begin a study on Grounded: Finding God in the World – A Spiritual Revolution

A Bead and A Prayer: An Intergenerational Bible Study
Tuesday evenings from 7-8pm in Room 151 DT (Starting March 7 – 4 weeks)
This intergenerational small group will gather in Room 144 to introduce you to prayer as a way to connect with God. First, each participant will make a set of prayer beads. Then, using prayer beads, this four-week study will look at ways to pray with beads, learn how using prayer beads can help deepen our faith, and how prayer beads can help us listen for what God has to say to us. There is a $20 materials fee for the book and the beads. You’re invited to take up your beads and join me on our journey together in prayer. Sign up by March 1
by emailing Marie Matthews at [email protected]
This Holy Mystery: A Lenten Communion Study
Sunday mornings from 10:00-10:45am in Room 151 (Starting February 26)
Come and explore the meanings behind our communion traditions and explore different ways this sacrament was practiced throughout history. What is unique about the United Methodist approach to this ritual? What do we believe is happening when we take communion? Come and discuss these questions and more! The class will be led by Joy Gerdy-Zogby
.. Email her to sign up!
Young Adult Small Group
Friday evenings from 7-8:30pm at Kaldi’s Social House (Starting March 3)
Join this group for informal Bible study and some relaxing social time. We will be participating in the theme of stumbling blocks and focusing on Scripture related to the upcoming sermons. Contact Jen Kidwell to be added to the email list.
Monday Night Study Group
Monday evenings from 7-9PM in the Parlor at DT campus (March 27, April 2, April 17)
Join this group as we read Henri Nouwen’s classic, The Wounded Healer. Though 40 years old, this little text speaks to ways to do ministry with each other in a disoriented culture and history that feels familiar to 21st century readers. Contact Jen Kidwell to be added to the email list.
Third Grade Learning to Use My Bible Class

The curriculum uses a step-by-step approach to opening the Bible to kids for their lifelong faith journey. They will learn basic Bible skills with activities that directly coordinate with their Bible. Participants need to bring their Deep Blue Bible to class each week. If you need a Deep Blue Bible, see Ms. Marie.
